Will you be able to lease an Optimus?

Tesla has reportedly signaled it plans to rent or lease Optimus units before it ever sells one outright. Here is what is actually confirmed, and what is still an outside estimate.

SECTION CHECKED 2026-08-28
Stated plan

Tesla's own plan is to sell to enterprise and industrial customers first, an aspirational "late 2026" target, roughly a year before any consumer sale. Musk's conditional target for a possible consumer sale is "end of 2027," if the robot reaches sufficient reliability, safety, and functionality by then.

Reported plan

Will Tesla lease before it sells?
Tesla and Musk have indicated a possible "rent before sell" strategy, but it has not been confirmed with a date or price. This remains a stated plan, not an active program.
How do other robots lease today?
Agility Digit uses a Robot-as-a-Service model for enterprise customers with no public per-unit rate. 1X NEO offers $499/month subscription for early access. Figure and Atlas are enterprise deployment only.
